On June 3rd a group of researchers from across the Universities of Plymouth, Bristol, and Sussex are convening a collective inquiry critically examining the tangled theoretical and social justice roots of creative methods within research and beyond. We are interested in why people are using creative methods, and what roots (theoretical or otherwise) they are drawing from. We also want to explore the limitations of such methods and any dangers in their use getting contorted as they gain popularity (more on background and theme here).
This is not about creating a traditional conference space where some people present and others consume information. We want to create space for people to interact, think and creative together; for all attendees to bring and share thoughts; for us to inquire together into this theme. Therefore, we are open to all types of contributions, from interactive activities to exhibitions, films and more. We are also open to hosting a few presentations in more traditional formats and having posters in the space.
Beyond the event we are looking at how we could capture and share onwards the creative outputs, conclusions and further questions that arise in the space. This could look like blog posts, a zine, an exhibition, or even an academic article. This will depend on what comes out and capacities to take it forward.
The open call for event contributors closes March 27th – see more details here. But if you find this after that get in touch, we may still be open to people exhibiting work in the space. And do feel free to attend and participate!
Registration to attend the event is free, sign up here: https://www.britsoc.co.uk/events/key-bsa-events/the-tangled-roots-of-creative-research-and-social-justice-exploring-the-social-critical-and-theoretical-roots-of-creative-research-practice-and-disjuncture-within-everyday-practice/
This event received funding as a BSA Regional Postgraduate event, so we will be able to offer lunch on the day and have a limited number of travel bursaries available.
